Edie Sedgwick - The Ciao! Manhattan Tapes

hi guys and gals,

check out the great review of edie: girl on fire on warholstars:
http://www.warholstars.org/news/ediegirlonfire.html

gary comenas aptly states that “the publishers have not made the mistake of emphasizing style over substance. there is enough substance in edie girl on fire to please even the most die-hard edie sedgwick addicts.” the book is full of great writing and insightful quotes, which come together to tell edie’s story in a way that stays true to her realness. comenas also remarks upon the book design and the photographs, observing that these elements of the book are completely substantive as well: “the book’s design reinforces the intention stated by melissa painter in her introduction” to capture the sensation of standing next to edie sedgwick, of getting caught off guard by her, of holding her attention… although many Warhol books promise “previously unpublished” photos, this one really delivers. particularly mesmerizing are the early photographs such as the one taken by edie’s brother jonathan on page 18. it’s easy to dismiss edie as a sort of pop icon but she was a real person and her “realness” is reflected in jonathan’s photo.” commenas has a great observation about jonathan’s photo- it is that kind of attention to detail that we find throughout painter and weisman’s beautiful, candid, living portrait of edie. comenas sees that edie’s realness is too reflected in this important book.

enjoy.

Film Review - Factory Girl

The vibrant 1960s New York art scene has never seemed as boring and programmatic as in George Hickenlooper’s Factory Girl, a pointless excuse for the director to recreate hep locations (the Factory, the Hotel Chelsea) and counterculture icons (Andy Warhol, the Velvet Underground). As a biopic of Warhol’s favorite superstar, Edie Sedgwick (Sienna Miller), Factory Girl is shallow, devoting more time to her dull, scant romance with the faux-Dylan Billy Quinn (Hayden Christensen) than the demons really plaguing her, the sexual abuse she suffered from her homophobic father. If it’s an incomplete portrait of Sedgwick, it’s an even more worthless one of Warhol, unconvincingly played by a ghostly-pale Guy Pearce — then again, it’s hard to fathom a better Warhol than Jared Harris in I Shot Andy Warhol. Hickenlooper employs grainy, faux-vintage footage to enhance the period authenticity and employs the kind of psychedelic camera trickery most film students outgrow before their thesis project, which helps exude the icky vibe of watching a Behind the Music under the influence of a mediocre bong hit. Even the sex scene lacks spark, its Red Shoe Diaries sultriness utterly out of place.

Took a test - WHAT MAKES YOU BEAUTIFUL ?
results>>>

Pure and simple — an elegant woman like you takes pride in how you look, whether you're headed to work, a party, or even just the grocery store. And you don't mind taking your time and making the effort to put your best foot forward.

You love to dress up, and we bet you always have. You have fun experimenting with makeup, hair, clothes, glitter, or satin, and anything that sparkles can be your best friend. It's not that you don't know how to go au naturale, but you have the most fun when your gorgeous glamour shines through. That's high style!
There's nothing wrong with being a little different.

How to be a Bitch

Step OneThink about numero uno.
The reason a woman or sometimes a man can be classified as a bitch is primarily because they are only concerned with themselves. If you think about yourself ahead of all others, you are placing yourself in the prime position to become a bitch. From now on it's not about anybody else but you. You do what you want, talk to who you want, have sex with who you want, all of which are aimed at fulfilling your needs. Why? Because you are starting to be a bitch.

2Step Two

Drop the nice act. Are you always going the extra mile to help a friend? Are you always putting in the extra five bucks when everybody goes out? Then don't. Stop. Don't say please, don't say thank you. Expect people to help you. Tell them why they must help you and put you above others. Be blatant, be demanding and...just be a bitch!

3Step Three

Seek revenge. If someone has screwed you, if someone has been a bitch to you in the past, now it's time to give it right back to them. Mark your target and go after them blatantly. Once you have your mark, find out what really excites them, pleases them, or makes them happy, and absolutely destroy it for them. If your co-worker has to leave early and you're always getting stuck with her extra work, next time she tries to pull it, leave the pile of work on desk and simply walk out. Tell her it's her responsibility. Other tricks great for revenge are blatantly ratting someone out, forward embarrassing emails, pictures or telling wildly inappropriate stories about them in front of their parents. Like the time they had sex in the bathroom at Thanksgiving. Perfect!

4Step Four

Keep it up. A bitch isn't simply a snide woman one day and then completely fine the next. That can just get chalked up to PMS. No, a bitch is a woman who keeps up her bitchiness for long periods of time. She denies sex for long periods of time, refuses to assist people, puts herself head and shoulders above everyone, her favorite word is "no." This is not to say that a bitch can't be nice now and again. But if she is, it is only used as a tool to get what she wants. And the fact that she is nice surprises everyone around her. Congratulations, by following these steps, you are officially a bitch!

Fly the ocean in a silver plane and see the jungle when it's wet with rain

You belong to me - Vonda Shepard

See the pyramids along the Nile
Watch the sunrise on a tropic isle
Just remember that all the while
You belong to me
See the market place in old Algiers
Send me photographs and souvenirs
Just remember when a dream appears
You belong to me
I'll be so lonesome without you
Maybe you'll be lonesome, too
And blue
Fly the ocean in a silver plane
See the jungle when it's wet with rain
Just remember 'til you're home again
You belong to me
Maybe you'll be lonesome, too
And blue
Fly the ocean in a silver plane
See the jungle when it's wet with rain
Just remember 'til you're home again
You belong to me
Maybe you'll be lonesome, too
And blue
Fly the ocean in a silver plane
See the jungle when it's wet with rain
Just remember 'til you're home again
You belong to me

Key Largo

Key Largo - Bertie Higgins
Wrapped around each other
Trying so hard to stay warm
That first cold winter together
Lying in each other's arms
Watching those old movies
Falling in love so desperately
Honey I was your leading lady
And you were my hero

CHORUS:
We had it all
Just like Bogie and Bacall
Starring in own old late, late show
Sailing away to Key Largo

Honey can't you remember
We played all the parts
That sweet scene of surrender
When you gave me your heart
Please say you will...play it again
'Cause I love you still
Baby this can't be the end

Here's lookin' at you kid
Missing all the things we did
We can find it once again, I know
Just like they did in Key Largo

DJ Candy Knauss

DJ Icon of the month - Oct 2007
Presenting to you all folks
DJ Candy Knauss all the way from Sunny island shores of Singapore

>>>>> applause>>>>>

BrianX Magazine: Describe your youth.
DJ Candy Knauss': I was 'hyperactive' as a child! Really into sports and totally into music!!

How did you get into DJing?
To begin with DJing was just a hobby, I was quite happy as a 'bedroom dj' until one day a mate of mine was playing at this massive rave to 3000 people... He drunk one too many beers, and I was forced on the decks to take over!! I had never played out before, I was so nervous, but I've been addicted to DJing ever since!!

Are DJ Candy Knauss' and Clarissa Wong 2 different personas?
Yes defiantly it has to be that way!! I run my own business, its a female dj agency (www.sexydeejays.com) Plug! Plug!! so anyway clarissa is sensible & business minded on weekdays but at the weekends DJ Candy Knauss' really lets her hair down, I can be a bit of a party girl when I want to be!

Have people recognized you based on your 'celebrity status'?
Sometimes, mainly at airports or in record shops.

Favourite place on the planet to DJ?
Ibiza

How competitive is the female DJ market?
No I wouldn't say the female dj market is competitive at the moment, as I'd say there is more work on offer for female djs, more than female djs if that makes sense!! But won't be for long... there are hundreds of talented girls breaking through now.

Favourite vacation spot?
Cape Town is wonderful, but I'm off to New Zealand in a few months, and I know I'm just gonna love it there, I've always wanted to go!

It's 12:01pm. What are you doing?
Getting out of bed or having breakfast!!

What has been the best experience on the job?
Far too many too mention!!

What has been the worst experience on the job?
I love my job, but the travelling really gets me down... airports are a nightmare!!

What's the most common question that people ask you?
Are you okay? You look really tired!!!

What do you want the world to know about you?
I can scoff a whole packet of Maryland chocolate chip cookies with one cup of tea, no problem!

Choose any 3 words to describe yourself.
Ambitious, independent & scatty [Scatterbrained]

If you could have anything in the world, what would it be?
To reach all my goals in life. 6 achieved, so only 5084 to go!!

Do you wear any specific type of clothing to DJ?
Its hard to wear high heels & skirts when working, so I normally go for the trendy option, funky boots, jeans & strappy number!!

How hard do you party?
Yes sometimes I party Hard........ my wildest experience was a trip to Manumission on an all girl holiday to Ibiza!! I can't really remember much after losing my shoe!!

A day spa. A flight in a F-15 fighter jet. Passionate animal-like sex. Choose one.
Definitely animal like sex in a F-15 fighter jet!!! Adrenaline Rush...Yeah love it!!!

Fav body part on men?
Mmmm big brown eyes definitely!!

...and on your own body?
booty, they are like little char xiao bao !!

Bad boys or nice guys?
Attracted to Bad Boys, but best to settle down with a Mr Nice guy !!

You and relationships... do they work?
I find relationships very hard work, but I think that's my fault to be honest. I allow enough time for relationships, I get too wrapped up in my own life .

Favorite upcoming projects?
I've been in the studio working on my next track, which will be out early next year on C & C Musik Records (Australia) . Also I'm touring New Zealand and Oz in January, all very exciting! New website coming soon too ... www.djcandyknauss.co.uk
